🍄 TANGLE'S MISTAKE

Blaze followed the trail of bent vines deeper into the jungle than she had ever gone. The trees here were ancient — wider than houses, their roots tangled together like a living floor. Bioluminescent moss painted everything in soft blue-green light. This was the Deep Root, the oldest part of the jungle.

And there, filling a clearing the size of a football field, stood vine sculptures. Hundreds of them. Enormous geometric shapes — rectangles, squares, triangles — all arranged in perfect mathematical patterns. The largest was a rectangle of one thousand, two hundred and ninety-six vines arranged in nine perfect rows.

Behind the sculptures, Blaze heard tiny, frightened voices. She pushed through a curtain of hanging moss and found them — one thousand, three hundred and sixty-five Sprockets, huddled in a hollow beneath the roots. They were the missing ones, accidentally trapped when Tangle's vine sculptures grew across the only path home.

"One thousand three hundred and sixty-five!" said Doz, bouncing excitedly. "I've been counting them all day! They need to travel in seven equal groups through the vine tunnels!"

Tangle appeared at the edge of the clearing. Up close, it wasn't scary — just enormous and gentle, its vine-fingers moving in slow, careful patterns. It hadn't been trying to trap anyone. It had been building. Creating art.

Blaze explained fair sharing. Tangle had one thousand, seven hundred and twenty-eight short vines to share equally between six villages to rebuild the bridges it had blocked.

Tangle understood now. It carefully deconstructed its sculptures, sorting one thousand, five hundred and eighty-four vines into the clearing. Time for serious short division practice.

First: bundles of six. Blaze showed the short division method — divide each part, carry the remainder, bring down the next digit.

Tangle agreed — sculptures only in clearings, never on paths. Blaze helped plan the first official sculpture garden: thirteen metres wide and nine metres long.

First, they needed to know the total area. Thirteen times nine equals one hundred and seventeen square metres. Then Tangle could plan rows.
